V-Net Little Champs action resumes with top of table clash

first_imgThe extended rainy season has ended and it’s time for cricket to resume in the city where several competitions were suspended.The ‘Little Champs’ will resume their battle at the MYO groundOne such tournament is the inaugural V-Net Communications Under-13 Pairs Cricket Competition which stared in April.After three days of action at the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) ground, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) are leading the points table with 40 points and are followed by Bel-Air Rubis on 23 points. The other two teams in the competition are Transport Sports Club (14 points) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) with one point.In the exciting format, two players at a time bat for five overs and score runs normally however, after a dismissal the team is penalized with the deduction of runs. Each innings lasts 25 overs which means 10 batsmen will bat.When the action resumes today at MYO, it will be DCC and Bel-Air Rubis squaring off from 13:00h.According to organizers, the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Malteenoes Sports Club recently formed an under-13 team and preparations are being made to include them in the round-robin tournament.The competition is also supported by Cerluean Inc, Give Another Chance Foundation, Guyana Trading Company and Eco Atlantic International Investment Inc.Meanwhile, the New Building Society (NBS) 40-over second division tournament will also resume today with one match. Everest Cricket Club (ECC) will host Transport Sports Club from 11:00h as this competition also nears completion.And due to the unavailability of a suitable venue the General Industrial and Supplies Enterprise, Star Party Rental and Trophy Stall two-day first division tournament will have to wait a little longer to resume. DCC were down to host Malteenoes Sports Club but the Queenstown venue remains unplayable due to additional rain recently.However, with the weather looking favourable, the GCA is optimistic that venues and teams will be fully ready for action by next weekend where a total resumption is anticipated.last_img read more
